i’m blockhead. i was born and raised in downtown Manhattan. i make beats. i’ve worked with a bunch of mc’s (lots with aesop rock, murs, cage, mike ladd, and a bunch of others). i also do solo instrumental hip hop type shit on ninja tune records. my first album “music by cavelight” is now approaching triple platinum and i’m thinking of buying a jet . both of those statements are incredibly false. but what is true is that i’m also one half of the critically acclaimed (if acclaimed means despised) Party fun action committee (www.myspace.com/partyfunactioncommittee) along with my homeslice jer. it was a comedy album put out by def jux. it is also , possibly, the best worst selling album ever made. my second album instrumental album “downtown science” is out right now…it’s good. you’ll like it. my third album is a rare gem known as “uncle tony’s coloring book”. it’s a little something different for your mind. umm…i also enjoy long walks on the beach and short walks to the bodega. i’m a libra.
Alfred Darlington (born Alfred Weisberg-Roberts) is an experimental music producer based out of Los Angeles, California. Daedelus pioneered using the Monome in conjunction with Max/MSP for live performances. He is a part of the groups Adventure Time and The Long Lost. He is currently signed to the Ninja Tune label but has released material with a number of labels, including: Plug Research, Mush, Laboratory Instinct, Eastern Developments, Phthalo, Merck, Big Dada, Soul Jazz, Distill, Hefty, Bit Of Heaven, Temporary Whatever, Stones Throw, Alpha Pup, Eat Concrete and Warp. He is also a founding DJ at the internet radio station Dublab.
With the Reset EP released October last year and his bootleg mixes of everyone from KELIS to MR. OIZO and MADVILLAIN circulating amongst the heads, FLYING LOTUS’ name is on the lips of many as the leader of a new generation of artists emerging from California. A movement that has captured attention worldwide, fuelled by hip-hop and cutting-edge dance music, FLYING LOTUS is redefining the sound of LA. Flying Lotus is a man of many sides; from the huge sounding collabs and remixes giving indication of the slickest productions you are likely to hear on radio to his high voltage live shows (we saw earlier this year) which are somewhere between the best ever house party DJ and the most crowd-smashing live electronic act you’ve seen, to this new album proper - ‘Los Angeles’ - a deep, soulful, intricate album where glints of detail are unearthed to make this opus richer on every listen. Of course, it’s no secret that Lotus is the product of a rich musical lineage and Auntie’s Harp serves not only as a collaboration with his majestic aunt (ALICE COLTRANE), but also a more fitting tribute. Testament arrives as the intro to Fly Lo’s collaborator GONJA SUFI in all his mage-like splendor. Like DR. DRE & SNOOP DOGG, TIMBALAND & MISSY or BETH GIBBONS & GEOFF BARROW, the pairing of a pioneering producer & entirely distinct vocalist/songwriter is a force to be reckoned with. The feeling is only amplified with the closing opus Infintum. Enveloping vocalist LAURA DARLINGTON in a track that bridges GAINSBOURG/BARDOT territory with BROADCAST and shape-shifting post-modern R&B, it is a sublime bookend to Brainfeeder and serves as the perfect FIN to Los Angeles epic journey.

Emerging from his own distinct corner of the West Coast electronic music scene, Random Rab offers a powerful, timeless contribution to sonic exploration. Rab is a master of manipulating our temporal awareness, leading us into seemingly ancient worlds, where to our amazement, we find visible shreds of the future. Allow his sound to catalyze your travels into haunting ecstasy, and you will not return to your same beginning. Playing only his own originally produced music live, the depth and craftsmanship of this offering is remarkable. With an array of drum machines, samplers, sequencers, and instruments, it is a clear devotion to expression and perfection. The beats are smooth, bold, and overwhelming. The original vocals, melodies and hitting bass merge seamlessly into a tapestry of unique and unexpected journeys.
Hello Sean Hayes here…. Choices …chaos…chocolate…
I write songs and sing in bars. Somewhere out there in the great bigness there is a Black Hole singing and eating up little baby stars. So be careful of mean people backup by whiskey.
I like the sound of claw hammer banjo.
Years ago in North Carolina I played Irish music and tradition American songs in a band called “the Boys of Blue Hill”.
I also like PJ Harvey.
The world has changed a lot. We are dinosaurs walking around in a sea of digital realities. Things do not weigh as much as they use to. I am listening to a radio station that is 3000 miles away. I make my living playing songs. I do and I just get by in this city of earth shakin. If you dig it up pass it on….this is all for now more later yes

Chris Sia, Minister of Properganda, for the !Armageddon Prevention Team, is bunkered away at the !A.P.T. headquarters, laying the cornerstones for the Team’s new multimedia show, “!All People’s Temple,” conspiring and collaborating with the likes of Ill Gates, anasia, .deft & Eugene Steele. “All People’s Temple” is an homage to the world’s cultures, traditions, religions, politics, etc. Borne of a conceptual art piece to simultaneously evacuate and then demolish all the world’s iconic religious, political and cultural landmarks, the All People’s Temple is an amalgamation of all these sacred cows humanity has created. Honoring them for how they have served, but also recognizing that in their stasis, or their inability to evolve with the times, has bred corruption. By destroying them metaphorically, like Siva’s final foot touching down, the end of a cycle is reached, paving way for new paradigms. The only true revolution is a revolution that continues revolving.

Cohen’s music is unmistakably one of a photographer and filmmaker: cinematic and bursting with story. His songs reflect a relationship of light and sound, and above all strive to reflect the beauty around us. Delicate and pure, each track is marked by the joy of simply making music. Whether he is playing the guitar (banjo, bass, ukulele or sitar), or photographing nature, Cohen’s art mirrors the simple beauty that surrounds all of us.

I’m here to use my art, music, talents (ie. fireworks handling, and general ruckus bringing etc) to heal this planet, as well as its inhabitants, and myself. I started DJing about 7 years ago with a long break in there were i played with and managed various bands which included the now on hiatus world fusion,African/Middle eastern gypsy crew from San Francisco, Hamsa Lila. Around the same time Hamsa Lila was slowing I found myself Totally inspired by the new sounds coming out of london, DUBSTEP/GRIME was that sound. As it was for most people who grew up in the house/DnB/Jungle/ and breaks underground scene on the west coast, Dubstep/Grime was totally fresh and inspired me to once again play records and jump head first back into the DJ and production world. Its been about 4 years, and im more inspired than ever by the new music that’s poppin, as well as the future of what has become a limitless genre in my eyes. I’ve been blessed to play alongside many artists I love and respect, as well as grace the decks at major Festivals and Underground parties, with no end in sight…In 2007 I started the west coast dubstep Label Castle Dubskull Records. We have an amazing roster of talent, and some seriously huge tunes that will be released digitally in early 08 via the blasters of the universe compilation volume 1. Our focus will be to bring you some of the West Coasts hottest Talent as well as focusing on keeping the scene LOW with heavy vinyl pressings taking front and center. Check out the castle dubskull records music page to get a taste of whats in store… Nothing but Respect to the those who stand up for freedom, human rights, and the ultimate universal law of LOVE, as well as all souljahz reppin the Vinyl.
One of Muti Music hottest new artists makes his mark again after a very successful debut year in 2008, this time with an album of his signature sounds of dubbed out, glitchy bass tracks and instrumental Hip Hop.
Mostly composed while on a trip to Uruguay in Jan 2009 Heyoka has delivered a trippy , dubbed out sets of tracks that show homage to oldschool dub while playing with modern glitch effects and instrumental hip hop, the result is a listen that could find your mind drifting into unfamiliar spaces that may surprise many.
Heyoka became one of the west coasts most sought after artists last year, which has led to more international engagements in 2009, with festival bookings in Australia and Canada in addition to maintaining a hectic US touring schedule. His early influences in Downtempo, Dub and IDM combined with more recent mid-tempo dancefloor genres have helped create a very unique sound that combines relentless basslines, hip hop and dub rhythms with a lot of musicality and melody.
Most well known for his involvement in the Glitch Mob, Kitty-D has also been hard at work on collaborations with Random Rab (as Flowers of Wraith), Ooah (The Seedling Escape), and Goldilox (Goldilox+Kitty-D). The Seedling Escape’s Photosynthesis mix is available now at Fake Science, with appearances by Random Rab, LayerZ (aka Audiovoid), and Epcot.
Lafa Taylor, a world traveler based in Eugene, Oregon, is an up and coming Northwestern emcee/producer. Producing all his own music on his own label, Make Music, he creates a complex sound with intelligent lyrics. Choosing to rhyme about current issues in a positive and constructive way, his music carries a message of inspiration for all walks of life.
Music has always been an important part of Lafa’s life, and he started recording six years ago. Making beats on a ghetto sampler and a four track from his mom, Lafa and his high school friends started rhyming and recording tracks in Lafa’s bedroom. Playing at schools and small local shows, something began to emerge. Soon Lafa began to dedicate his time to creating his own sound, and becoming more proficient with his beat making which he cultivated into his current music.
LIGHTA! is the sounds of the dubstep, dancehall, jungle, dub, bass, fire, and hybridized club and soundclash music - mixed, blended, glitched out and mashed up into what some might call “newsound”. LIGHTA! SOUND is about the fresh riddims, while staying firmly rooted in the sounds of bass, echo and dubwise business.
LIGHTA! core members are Michael Red, Calamalka, Max Ulis, Taal Mala, Tusk, Daega Sound System, Tank Girl, Self Evident and DJ Cure. Side souldiers are Condition Red, Angst, and few other shadows lurking.
We throw our own underground parties, a few handfuls of club events, collab with NFF on the Dubforms series, pushing the lighta! sound across Vancouver, down the west coast and over the oceans. We make music, make dubs, put soundbwoys to rest, and burn the wicked system down from the inside out. Kill them with love, lightness, root vibration and sonic fire.

Before dubstep was being played by virtually every big name dj on the west coast, Lighta! sound from Vancouver B.C. was bringing relatively unknown artists to North America, such as the Bug, Loefah, and Kode 9, to play underground parties in crowded warehouses and basements to sweaty smiling people about to witness the birth of a new and influential sound. Dubstep has reshaped the face of west coast music and the world of electronic music at large, and Lighta! has been there from the beginning. Known for showcasing a wide range of styles, Max Ulis has remixed for The Future Sound of London, had his tunes played by ground breaking dj’s such as Joe Nice and Stereotyp, and played alongside the likes of Skream, Filastine, Dj Vadim, Remarc, the Mad Professor, Starkey, Deadbeat and Kode 9. Max’s sets are filled with original creations and exclusive unreleased tracks by some of the most sought after producers in the genre. Although relatively unknown south of the border, the music of Ben Ulis aka Self Evident can be heard in the sets of the west coast’s elite, with influences from hip hop to idm and rooted in dubstep, expect something original. When playing together Max Ulis and Self Evident operate like a fifteen armed omnipotent dogfish armed with a velvet dipped laser. Prepare to get crazy…
Mimosa takes listeners on a journey through warm rhythmic sound-scapes, with melodies and vocal samples smoothly crafted to help navigate the sonic terrain. Using basslines inspired by hip-hop classics like Too Short and Dr Dre, combined with deep psychedelic textures reminiscent of the downtempo and midtempo output by Tipper and Bluetech, Mimosa blends the range of styles to create his own fresh take on the west coast sound.
Mimosa’s debut EP release, Hostilis, presents tracks with heavy-hitting low frequencies, sexy grooves, and uplifting dub infusions, floating between instrumental Hip Hop and Dubstep. The Hostilis EP also features prolific MC Souleye from Colorado, known for his extensive touring with jam bands like BLVD and STS9. The track ‘Framboise’ features beautiful vocal textures provided by Canadian artist Sasha [Butterfly] Rose.
Born in Taiwan R.O.C. to rocket scientist father and kindergarten teacher mother, David Wang (a.k.a. Mochipet) has been tinkering with electronics all of his life. However, it was not until he added music to the equation that something began to spark. Growing up on metal guitar, Avant-Garde Jazz, and mainstream hip-hop, David has always been a person of diversity. And we can see this in his music, ever changing, and always evolving.
Through out his life, David has worked as a Jazz Radio DJ, Web Designer, and Tub Boat Dispatcher.
DJ/vocalist/producer hailing from San Francisco. On any given weekend, if he’s not behind the decks (he played over 100 gigs during 2008), you’ll likely find him on the dancefloor, which is what makes the 10-year veteran a dancer’s DJ. Mozaic has built a reputation on solid mixing and fearless genre-hopping: tech-house, techno, broken beat, 2-step, midtempo and dub all find their way into his arsenal- sometimes within a single set. Recently, you also may have seen/heard Mozaic’s collaboration with EPROM, Hookerz & Blow; they’ve been laying waste to dancefloors up and down the West Coast with their live dj/laptop sets, and had recent remixes rinsed by everyone from Basement Jaxx to Jesse Rose to Annie Mac.

DJ shawna’s passion for music began in early childhood and throughout while attending the winnipeg music folk festival in manitoba, canada, where she grew up. there, she was exposed to musical genius from all over the planet, which greatly refined her her ear for the subtleties and origins of all types of music. it wasn’t until the age of 18 that she took any interest in electronic music, and began pursuing mostly world fusion, “down tempo”, and ambient. always searching for that same quality of depth in the electronic realm, she has since collected a vast diversity from hip hop/dub/dubstep/r&b/dancehall/world fusion to “idm”/house/nudisco/tech/electro. she’s been dj-ing “out” since 1999. always eclectic, her varied tastes are brought to the dance floor where she aims to find something for everyone in every set, as well as to attend to as many of the emo/ego realms from sexy deep to uplifting spirited bliss.
